Dr. Mark Lloyd
Veterinary Medical Assistance Team (VMAT)
At the September 11th World Trade Center disaster site, Dr.
Mark Lloyd served as Deputy Commander, Veterinary Medical
Assistance Team (VMAT-1), and supervised search and rescue
efforts with animals. He received the 2001 National Disaster
Medical Society Award for Outstanding Service. He has had
a distinguished career as a zoo veterinarian and chairs the
Aquatic Animal Medicine section of the American Association
of Zoo Veterinarians, and served as past President for the
Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians. Dr.
Lloyd serves on the faculty for Tufts University, College
of Veterinary Medicine; the University of Maine, Department
of Veterinary Technology and Vermont College, Conservation
Biology. He is a Wildlife Management and Veterinary Consultant
and actively participates in conservation education nationally
and internationally.
